Simulating mergers in a vertical supply chain with bargaining

چکیده
We model a two-level supply chain where Nash bargaining occurs upstream and firms compete in logit setting downstream, either via Bertrand price or an auction. The parameters can be calibrated with discrete set of data on prices, margins, market shares, facilitating use by antitrust practitioners. perform numerical simulations to identify cases modelling the full vertical structure is important harm likely. also examine thwarted Anthem/Cigna merger show how weighs various arguments made government defendants.

Dynamic Bargaining in a Supply Chain with Asymmetric Demand Information
We analyze a dynamic bargaining game between a seller and a buyer, who negotiate over quantity and payment to trade for a product. Both firms are impatient, and they alternate in making a contract offer until an agreement is reached. The buyer is privately informed about his type, which can be either high or low, with respect to the property of the uncertain demand he faces. The demand distribu...
متن کاملSUPPLY CHAIN INTERMEDIATION: A Bargaining Theoretic Framework
This chapter explores the theory of supply chain intermediation. Using a bargaining theoretic framework, we set out to examine why intermediaries exist, different forms they operate, and the way they influence supply chain efficiency. The notion of intermediary has its root in the economics literature, referring to those economic agents who coordinate and arbitrate transactions in between a gro...

15 صفحه اولLocal Bargaining and Supply Chain Instability
We analyze the behavior of a competitive n-tier supply chain system, where agents bargain with each other locally. We study the influence of transaction costs on the convergence of the system to a stationary outcome. In particular, we consider a dynamic bargaining game among a finite set of agents and its replications, and use a limit stationary equilibrium to examine the system’s behavior as t...
